Copyright Policy
Last updated: [Placeholder Date]
Verse is built on musicians’ trust that their work will be respected. This Copyright Policy explains who owns what on Verse, how rights holders can report infringement, and how we handle those reports — including procedures modelled on the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and comparable laws.
Copyright ownership
Musicians retain all rights, title, and interest in the music, lyrics, recordings, demos, artwork, and other creative works they upload to Verse. Uploading content does not transfer ownership to Verse; we only receive a limited licence to host, display, and process that content as described in our Terms of Service.
Verse itself, and the software, design, and content that make up the platform, are protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws and remain the property of Verse or its licensors.
Your responsibility as an uploader
You may only upload content you own or have permission to share. If your work includes contributions from co-writers, producers, session musicians, vocalists, or samples, make sure you have their permission before uploading. Repeat or serious violations will lead to account termination.
Reporting infringement (takedown notice)
If you believe that content on Verse infringes your copyright, please send us a written notice by email to copyright@verse.app. To help us act quickly, please include:
- Your full name, postal address, phone number, and email address.
- A description of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed.
- The location on Verse where the infringing material appears (for example, a profile URL or track link).
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act on their behalf.
- Your physical or electronic signature.
How we handle takedown notices
When we receive a valid notice, we will act promptly — typically by removing or disabling access to the reported content — and notify the user who uploaded it. We may also share the notice (including your contact details) with that user so they can respond. Submitting a false or bad-faith notice may expose you to liability under applicable law.
Counter-notification
If you believe content of yours was removed or disabled by mistake or misidentification, you can send a counter-notice to copyright@verse.app. Please include:
- Your full name, postal address, phone number, and email address.
- Identification of the material that was removed and the location where it appeared before removal.
- A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief that the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification.
- A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the courts in the location of your address (or, if outside the U.S., any judicial district in which Verse may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who submitted the original notice.
- Your physical or electronic signature.
What happens after a counter-notice
We will forward a valid counter-notice to the original complainant. Where required by law, we may restore the removed content after a waiting period, unless the complainant informs us that they have filed a legal action to keep it down. Verse does not act as a judge of underlying rights — we follow the process laid out here and by applicable law.
Repeat infringer policy
We terminate the accounts of users who are repeatedly identified as infringers, as well as accounts involved in a single clear-cut case of serious infringement. We also reserve the right to disable content and accounts at our discretion whenever we believe the platform is being used to infringe others’ rights.
